| On our last night in NYC we went to a pub crawl. This was with the hostel we stayed at. The idea is simple: get a people together from different countries and go to each of the local bars and drink what ever their cheapest drink is. For example at one bar decorated in things like a Dr Doom mask and a Captin America shield you find Pabst Blue Ribon for just $1.50 which in NYC is a bargin. |

When I say "different countries" that doesn't quite tell the whole
story. Take these two for example. They are Iranian-German. Always
a good combination. The blond one had a few too many but when I
got the chance to interrogate them they had an answer for every
question. Most of the questions were geared toward finding out his
views as a) an Iranian (an anti-Iraq country) b) a German (anti-Iraq
war country) and how they played into his views on what had been going
on in Iraq.
His view: it is the best thing that could have happened. His view reflects that of a lot of former Iraq and Iran citizens I have interviewed. Lots of short term pain, lots of long term gain. |
